According to some sources, every sunrise and sunset mark the scene of the perpetual confrontation between Horus and Seth. In this endless battle, Seth, as god of darkness and chaos, prevails over Horus, thus granting the coming of night. However, in an eternal revenge, the victory of Horus, celestial god, begins a new day, giving continuity to a cycle that has lasted since the beginning of time.

In the game, players, playing the roles of Horus and Seth, face each other in three locations: The world of the living (the Deshret), the underworld (the Duat) and in the Solar Boat or Mandjet which symbolizes the journey of the Sun in the sky.

Sunrise Sunset is a two-player game with only 18 tarot-sized cards, which makes it a very portable game to play anywhere, game after game. Its mechanics design provides great depth and tension in each game where guessing your opponent’s intentions is key to winning.

Taking turns, each player will place a card in one of the three locations until they have placed two cards on both sides of each of the three locations, a total of 12 cards. After this, the combat in each location will be resolved. Each combat won makes you dominant in the corresponding location, if you win a combat again where you dominate, you will do one point of damage. The game is over when a player manages to do 3 points of damage.

The cards have different powers and abilities, even some of them will be played face down to hide your strategy, a broad knowledge of each card will help you to calculate your chances in each combat and thus make better decisions in the game. The rules include a summary of the powers and abilities of each card to help you during the game.

A duel in Sunrise Sunset feels deep and agile with palpable tension in every decision.
